The 2015 Utah VHF Society Swap Meet

The 2014 Utah VHF Society Swap Meet

Scheduled to occur on February 28, 2015

It will start at 9 AM - the same as last year,
but one hour later than in past years.

The 2015 UVHFS swapmeet will be held at the same location as the 2014 and 2013 swap meets - the Davis County Fairgrounds in Building #2 see the previous entry (link) for directions on getting to this new venue.
Just south of the Clark Lane and 1100 West intersection,
the northern end of the fairgrounds with the white
fence and the long exhibition building on the left.

If you are a current Utah VHF Society member admission is free.  It is highly recommended that you pre-pay your 2015 Utah VHF Society dues to minimize your standing in line, waiting to pay them at the door.  For information on how to "re-up" your Utah VHF Society membership, go here - link.

If you are planning to sell something, you may arrive as early as 8 AM to set up.  If you plan to sell something there will be a nominal charge for a table and/or floor space whether or not you are a Utah VHF Society member.

Admission:  Free for VHF Society members, $5.00 for non members

Table:  $5.00 for members/nonmembers - quantities are limited!

Floor space:  $3.00 for members/nonmembers.  If you do this, bring your own table... or not!

How to get there:

If you've never been to the Davis County Fairgrounds - or have forgotten details, one of the key landmarks is the intersection of 1100 West and Clark Lane - which is also 100 North.  At this intersection you would go south a couple of blocks, following a white fence on your left.

lot at the Davis County fairgrounds.

At this point the north end of the Davis County Fairgrounds is one your left and as you can see in the picture above, there's a long exhibition building.

A bit past this building there is a break in the fence where you can see two entrances onto a paved parking lot:  Go into either entrance.

Once you are in the parking lot, find your way toward the south end and down there you'll see some more buildings and, hopefully, a bunch of cars with callsign license plates, strange-looking antennas and, possibly, strange-looking people hauling their valuable junque into a building!

Building #2, the site of the 2015 Utah VHF Society
Swap Meet with the large, white door.  If you were at
the 2014 or 2013 Utah VHF Society Swap meet, this is the
same place!

What you are looking for is building #2 - a large, blue building with a flagpole out front and a large, white garage-type door.

When you park, please be conscious of the needs of those who require special access and of those who may be lugging in something that is particularly large and heavy, leaving enough space near the sidewalk for them to gain access.

Below, you will find a simple map showing the location of the fairgrounds and building #2 with respect to the other roads and the Davis County Sheriff's office to the east.

See you there!

Are you about to expire?

I know what your first thought might have been, and the answer is "I hope not!" but the real question is:
Is your Utah VHF Society Membership about to expire?

You may recall the membership in the Utah VHF Society is based on the calendar year:  If you pay $12 in 2013, and you are good until the end of 2013 and because of this most people "re-up" their membership near the end of the previous year or sometime in the beginning of the new year.

If you are planning to come to the Utah VHF Society annual swap meet (read about it here - link) then your admission is included in the $12/year membership and if you pay beforehand either via check or PayPal, you'll be handed the booklet as you enter and you won't have to wait in line behind those who choose to pay at the swap meet!

If you do come to the swap meet, remember that if you aren't a VHF Society member, you will  not get a booklet with nice maps and an up-to-date Utah repeater listing.  If you do come to the swap meet and pay your $5 membership, remember that you'd need pay only another $7 at that time to join and get a booklet and get the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting one of the largest groups that benefits repeater operation in the state!

How to pay:

As mentioned above, you can renew/join the Utah VHF Society beforehand one of two convenient ways:
  • The old-fashioned way via check.
  • Via PayPal
Rather than give the boring details here and further clutter this page, just go to the page:
How to Join/Renew membership in the Utah VHF Society - link
to get all of the details!

If you "re-up" within a few week before the swap meet, we'll be sure to include you in the member listing in the booklet - that is, if you want to be!

As mentioned in the previous post, the Utah VHF Society Swap Meet will happen on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in building #2 of the Legacy Events Center in Farmington - a new venue for the swap meet.

So, how does one get there?

In the coming weeks we'll be adding some pictures and more detailed descriptions of the new location, but in a nutshell here's how to get there:

For pictures and maps, look at the blog entry, The 2013 Swapmeet Location - Maps and Pictures (link)

From the south via I-15:
  • Take exit #322 and stay to the right at the "Y" junction just after the exit to put you on 200 West.

  • State street will cross over I-15 and make a "jog" to the north.  You should see the Davis County Sheriff's complex on the left.
  • The road straightens out and you will soon arrive at 1100 West where you will turn left at the traffic signal to head south.
  • With the fairground now coming up on your left, go past the first entrance, but go in to either the 2nd or 3rd entrance (either one will work) and head to the south end of the parking lot.

From the south via Legacy Parkway:
  • Take the #12/13 exit but stay to your right to avoid getting on I-15!

The 2013 Swap Meet - new location!

The 2013 Utah VHF Society Swap Meet will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in building #2 of the Legacy Events Center near the south end of the Davis County Fairgrounds in Farmington.  This is located at 151 South, 1100 West and is just west of the Davis County Sheriff's office.

Doors will open for the general public at 8 AM and for those setting up tables to sell at 7 AM.

For paid-up members, the admission will be free, but you can "re-up" your Utah VHF Society membership at the door, but if you want to avoid the rush, you can pay in advance by mail or PayPal - click here to find out how!

If you are not a member of the Utah VHF Society, you are invited to join and help support VHF and UHF repeaters throughout the state - it's still only $12 per year!

If joining the VHF Society just isn't for you, you are still welcome to the Swap Meet and bring your stuff to sell:  Admission will be $5.00 for non-member adults and $2.00 for non-member youths aged 12 and under.

If you plan to sell something, there will be a charge of $5.00 for a table and $3.00 for floor space - or if you bring your own table.  Note that this applies to members and non-members alike where, for the latter, it is in addition to the admission fee.

(The new venue still ain't cheap, you know!)

Check back here soon for detailed driving directions and pictures of the new location.

A "new" venue for the swap meet:

It shouldn't escape your attention that this is NOT the same place as in past years:  When the Utah VHF Society went to book the 2013 event, it was discovered that the combined site and table rental had at least doubled since 2012 - and costs have been rising for years before this!  It was decided that rather than "break the bank" the Utah VHF Society would look for another location.

Because the deadline for reserving sites was approaching, other locations were checked and of those available, the Legacy Events Center was reasonable in price and still more-or-less central along the Wasatch Front.

Being in Farmington, it's unfortunate that it's about 10 or so more "freeway minutes" farther away for those coming from the south, but we'll try it this year to see how it works out.

Remember:  If you have connections or know of another venue that you might feel would be better, please let it be known using the email link below!  While it's too late to change it for 2013, we'll be happy to take suggestions for other locations in the years to come!
